As a visualization, the animation is transitioned together at different levels of proximity to the overall structure in order to gradually reveal the wave pattern, which is less evident in the beginning of the sequence- the motion is introduced as a close-up and apparently random motion, but it is actually a gradual synchronization of movements. By the same principle, a real-time, biofeedback- driven sequence would make use of proximity. My strategy is to use abstraction to confront the viewer's tendency to seek out pattern as a sense of resolve or conclusion, and reward by adjusting the willing eye into the flow of the wave motion. The wave is not just the product of a simple offset, but an increasing synchronization that is suspended just beyond the viewer's perception, and driving towards rest. The 'further' away from the structure, the more clearly the pattern may be seen. The proximity would be governed by the viewer's biofeedback. In this way, there is a direct correlation between proximity to the overall structure, wave speed, and a viewer's degree of emersion, or 'gestalt inhibition'. |
